Creating Extraordinary Journeys

At Samgai Journeys we create unforgetable, tailormade journeys across Africa, South Asia and the Himalaya.

We think that travelling is less about ticking off a bucket list of sights and more about unique experiences and interacting with the people you meet along the way. This is why all our tailormade journeys offer a one-of-a-kind experience. From spending the night in a Bhutanese monastery to joining scientists during their work with chimpanzees. By tapping into our decades of travel experience, extensive on-the-ground knowledge and a long list of trusted local contacts, we are able to craft memorable travel experiences that bring benefits to you and our host communities. In short, we create journeys that allow you to understand a destination and not just see it.

Mutually beneficial tourism

A guiding principal of Samgai Journeys is that we want our journeys to bring a positive impact to our host communities, the environment those people live in and the wildlife they live alongside. Wherever possible we use locally run small businesses and, ideally, ones managed as a community initiative, by the community and for the benefit of the community and environment. We ensure you get a deep understanding of local cultures and wildlife – understanding what you’re experiencing ensures mutual respect. We avoid exploitive tourist sights and developments. And, most importantly, every Samgai Journeys client pays a conservation and community development fee. This fee is built into your overall tour cost. This money does not come to Samgai Journeys as profit. Instead, it goes toward carefully selected local conservation and community development projects. These vary from conservancy and protected area maintenance fees to supporting community projects including women’s empowerment, river clean-ups, reforestation (native trees only), education and health projects and supporting scientists and conservationists in the field.
