Iraq
The Birthplace of Civilisation
This is the place where agriculture was invented; where the very first words were inscribed; where the wheel was first conjured up; where sandals, chariots and even beer were developed. This is the spot where the first organised religions were born; where arithmetic began; where time itself was invented; and where the first towns were constructed. In short, this is where the modern world was born. This is Mesopotamia, the Land between the Two Rivers, the heart of the ancient Sumerian civilisation. This is Iraq.
These days, the word Iraq tends to bring to mind memories of Saddam Hussein and decades of war, invasions and terrorism. Unfortuntely, for the past 30 years or so, Iraq has rarely been out of the news. But today, for the first time in almost as long as anyone can remember, the guns have finally fallen silent, security is massively improved and Iraqis are looking toward a brighter future. A future in which tourism will play a key economic role.
As safety has improved so the first adventuerous travellers have started to trickle back into Iraq. From Baghdad, to the legendary Garden of Eden, there is much for them to discover. We have been safely exploring Iraq since 2012 so join us on a journey to the place where civilisation was born and all our lives began.
